Former First Coast football standout shot, killed in Arlington Submitted by FirstCoastNews Web Staff Monday, January 4th, 2016, 6:02pm JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A former First Coast High School and Raines football player was shot and killed at a party in Arlington early Sunday morning, authorities said. Two others were also shot, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Mikel LaShawn Stewart, 19, lost his life in the shooting, Stewart’s father confirmed to First Coast News. He had a scholarship to Alabama State University, his father said, but he returned home and enrolled at the Florida State College of Jacksonville. Jason Lee Wilson, 41, is accused of lighting his acquaintance on fire after dousing him in lighter fluid on September 20, according to the State Fire Marshal. Wilson’s alleged involvement in the fire on Bahia Drive that sent a man to the hospital with critical injuries, killed his dog and caused $20,000 in damages to the man’s home has Wilson facing up to 30 years in prison if convicted. Burnett also happens to have one of the biggest light displays in the whole neighborhood, rivaled only by his nephew’s light display next door. Hundreds flock to the neighborhood every year to see the brilliantly decorated streets, adorned with strands of lights and surrounded by stars, manger scenes and Santa’s reindeer and sleigh. All Community Sponsors JSO: Child dies after being taken to hospital from Waterleaf Elementary School Submitted by FirstCoastNews Web Staff Thursday, December 10th, 2015, 7:23pm JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating at a school in the city’s east Arlington neighborhood Thursday following the death of a child, authorities said. Just before 10 a.m., police were dispatched to Waterleaf Elementary School located at 450 North Kernan Boulevard after a child was transported to the hospital, according to JSO. The child has since died, police said. Investigators say the circumstances leading to the child’s death are undetermined; however, no foul play is suspected at this time. Homicide detectives with JSO continue to investigate. The victim has been identified by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as Jocelyn Tindell, 21, of Jacksonville. The crash happened about 8:45 p.m. on Thanksgiving in the 9800 block of Atlantic Boulevard. According to the JSO, the woman was trying to cross Atlantic Boulevard when she was hit. Police say she was transported to UF Health Jacksonville with life threatening injuries. She later died, police said. Parts of Atlantic Boulevard near Library Road were shut down while investigators with the JSO traffic homicide division were on scene. The cause of the crash has not been released. Jacksonville fire crews responded to the blaze in the 500 block of Brookview drive just after noon. Neighborhood children from across the street smelled smoke and told an adult to call 911. The family was not home at the time of the fire.
